Linux Counter Logo A completely new mail setup

As everybody can find out the Linux Counter has some, publicly available, mailinglists, not only for helping you in case of registration problems, but also for matters like discussions about the Linux Counter and getting translations done.

A good feature and many people use those list to get help or send us suggestions for the Counter. Alas, many people seem to think the counter administrators are some of those unworldly nerds that are in need of some help. So, the last couple of years we were able to get all kinds of drugs, make big money in 419 deals and get all the girls we needed. Also, some people thought we should really stop with the Linux Counter and they tried to help us by sending virusses (alas, the above mentioned drugs wouldn't help). I guess you are all familiar with this.

Another point is that mailinglists normally work by sending email one to many, so a spam or virus message was directly multiplied by the number of list members and sent out to them. Which then caused lots of "Virus alert" messages to be sent back to the list, being multiplied, and sent out again to .........

No more of the above we said. The systems forming the Linux Counter have better work to do. And also the people supporting the Linux Counter have better ways to spend their time than deleting all the spam from their computers. Thus, since last night, the Linux counter now has a completely rebuild mailing system with active virus and spam controls.

Never having counted the numbers of virusses and spam sent to us, I (Patrick) was just a little bit surprised to find out that, in less than 24 hours the new mailing system is operational, we already stopped 6 virusses and 84 spam messages.

Will the Linux Counter be free of spam and virusses from now on? It would be nice, but the answer will be and even is NO, alas not. The first spam already slipped through the mazes offering us to buy ..... But the new mailing system will surely help.

One thing we are sure about is that the Linux Counter will spent a lot less time in sending mess around the world.
