CREDITS
The Counter would have been impossible without the efforts of a great many people.
In particular, we would like to thank:
- Patrick Reijnen, who designed the first Web page;
- Gramo (Ricardo Naranjo_Faccini) from Colombia, who designed the Linux Counter Logo, based on the "Tux" logo by Larry Ewing;
- Denis Havlik, who organized the Logo Contest, among his many other contributions to the project;
- Hans Kwint, who created the 2005 version of the "estimating the number of Linux users" page
- The Linux Counter Board of the Organization;
- The Linux Counter Country Managers;
- (lots of more people belong here!)
Hardware support
We have been supported in real, hard things by:
- UNINETT, who permitted me to run the initial counter on their hardware and bandwidth until the end of 1997, and has provided the bandwidth again from August 2000;
- EDB Maxware, who provided machine power from Jan-98 until October 1999, and network connectivity from Jan-98 until August 2000;
- Compaq, who provided the new Alpha server that is the home of the counter since October 1999;
- Linpro, who provided the Pentium PC that now serves as the Counter's database backend.
Software support
Unlike the hardware, most of these contributors don't know they've contributed. But they deserve to be listed!
The software used is
- Linux (of course)
- Apache
- MySQL
- Perl (including too many CPAN modules to list)
